Cinnaminson Police's Czarzasty Goes 'Above and Beyond'

Township officer wins award for community policing efforts.

A Cinnaminson police officer was honored last month by an organization for security professionals for his community policing initiatives. Officer Michael Czarzasty, an 11-year-veteran with the Cinnaminson Police Department, accepted the award for going “above and beyond.” “It’s nice to be recognized by a different organization other than our own,” Czarzasty said. The award came from ASIS International’s South Jersey chapter at its annual Law Enforcement Recognition Banquet on March 28. Czarzasty is in charge of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program at Cinnaminson schools and coordinates all the DARE events. He’s also in charge of the Adopt-A-Cop Program and the first-grade reading event. Czarzasty also designed the DARE car …

Bright Futures Are Drug Free

Cinnaminson schools observe Red Ribbon Week with efforts to encourage healthy life choices and drug free lives for our youngest citizens.

What is Red Ribbon Week? In 1985, an undercover DEA agent, Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Salazar, was kidnapped, brutally tortured and killed by drug traffickers in Mexico. In response to this horrific act of violence, many young people in Kiki’s hometown of Calexico, Calif., pledged to remain drug free and wore red ribbons in honor of the sacrifice Kiki made. In 1988, the National Family Partnership initiated the first National Red Ribbon Week. Since then, the last full week in October is observed as “Red Ribbon Week,” and red ribbons are worn as a promise to lead a drug free life. The National Family Partnership refers to the Red Ribbon Campaign as "an opportunity to send a consistent anti-drug message to young people." How are Cinnaminson …

Police Unveil DARE Car

The 1989 Pontiac Firebird has been completely redone and is ready to go.

After two years, thousands of dollars in donations and several auto body shops, the Cinnaminson Township Police Department’s DARE car is finished and ready to hit the streets. The 1989 Firebird has been completely transformed from its red, white and blue days in the ’90s to a silver-bodied spectacle complete with flames and a Pirate logo on its hood. How did Officer Michael Czarzasty, who heads up the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in Cinnaminson schools, react when asked if he liked the outcome of the refurbished vehicle? “Uh…yeah,” Czarzasty said with a smile. When Czarzasty, a 10-year veteran of the police force here, wanted the department to restart the DARE program, he was encouraged by Lt. Tim Young and then-Acting Police …

DARE Carnival Culminated Year-Long Education on Drugs, Alcohol

Cinnaminson's fifth-grade students participated in the program all year, and enjoyed a picnic Monday afternoon.

The Cinnaminson Police Department held the very first DARE carnival for the township's fifth-graders who successfully completed the first-year program. After years of promoting DARE through the police car only, Officer Michael Czarzasty—with the help of Lt. Tim Young and then-Chief Steve Fowles—went through training to teach the cirriculcum at Eleanor Rush, St. Charles and Westfield schools. Once a month, Czarzasty taught nine classes about drugs, alcohol, marijuana and more. Upon completion of the program, Czarzasty organized a picnic held Monday at Wood Park. The Willingboro SWAT team, Army and Navy units, as well as a rock wall, limited-vision go karts, basketball, inflatable rides and music courtesy of Fowles were featured. The Evesham…

Officer Mike and his fellow officers did a fine job and made the police and township proud, and made it look good. I only hope that certain people on the township committee don't turn it into anything but what it was, which was a job well done. It is time for some healing in town, there has been far to much negitivity between the township committee and our police. I for one think it is time to …   more ›
