Pepperidge Farm Bakery Outlet Opens Saturday

The outlet store is the newest business to open in Cinnaminson.

The Pepperidge Farm Bakery Outlet store will open in Cinnaminson this Saturday with a ribbon cutting, raffles and an appearance from Finn, the company mascot. “We’re so excited to open our expanded store here in Cinnaminson,” said Lori Blair, regional manager, in a release. The outlet store offers products like cookies, breads, crackers, cakes and more. Gift baskets are also available. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday. Some Cinnaminson officials will be on hand.  Pepperidge Farm will hold two kids’ bicycle raffles plus a gift basket raffle for its customers. Finn, the Pepperidge Farm goldfish mascot, will be available for pictures too, Blair said. The store is located at 2103 Branch Pike, Unit 4, in …

Bennigan's May Want Township Space, But No Licenses Are Available

T.G.I. Friday's and Chickie's and Pete's also wanted to open locations in Cinnaminson, but state laws prohibit more liquor licenses.

A sign in the window of an empty storefront in the Shoppes along Route 130 says the building is an approved storefront for a Bennigan’s location. But the popular neighborhood pub won’t be calling Cinnaminson its home any time soon. Nor will any other restaurant that serves alcohol. The township is out of liquor licenses—for both consumption and sales—so unless an owner wants to sell theirs off, Cinnaminson needs a major population boost to nab another. “Over the years,” said Deputy Mayor Anthony Minniti, who serves as the director of economic development, “we’ve had Friday’s, Chili’s, Ruby Tuesday, Chickie’s and Pete’s, and PJ Whelihan’s [express an interest in coming to Cinnaminson]. The only reason is we don’t have liquor licenses.” The …

Something's just not right if a private club has dibs on one of the few liquor licenses available to the whole town. We are the citizens and voters here. How do we change that?   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: What Would You Like to See Here?

Cinnaminson has empty storefronts, you have ideas. What are some of them to fill the former Gold's Gym spot?

Welcome to Cinnaminson Patch's new feature, Visions for Vacancies. Cinnaminson has several empty storefronts and we want to know what residents want to see there. This empty spot—once home to Branch Brook Company—was most recently Cinnaminson Health & Wellness/Gold's Gym. The gym closed abruptly in April of last year. Since then, there have been a few bites for the spot, but nothing stuck. The Mainline Shopping Center has recently gotten a makeover with new curbing and landscaping. Bottom Dollar opened in March and Deputy Mayor Anthony Minniti, who serves as the director of economic development, thinks the opening of the grocery store could attract tenants to the 30,000-square-foot building. "Ideally, it would become a Kohl's or a Home …

Everyone has an idea of what they would like to see, but will there be enough community support for the business to survive? It's all about demographics in retail, and if the numbers are not there, the big name stores won't be there either. Walmart does not force small businesses to close, the community deciding to save a few dollars at Walmart, instead of shopping at the small business, result …   more ›

Cinnaminson Economic Development Committee Back in Business

Ten locals will help with targeting businesses to town.

The township’s newly revitalized economic development committee can help target new businesses that may want to make their homes in town, Cinnaminson’s deputy mayor said this week. At Monday’s township meeting, Anthony Minniti, also the director of economic development, appointed 10 Cinnaminson business officials to an ad hoc committee that will discuss ideas about the town’s business sector. “We work very hard to revive the business-friendly reputation approach in town,” Minniti said, “and I don’t think we want to rest on our laurels.” Minniti said these professionals can “tap their resources” to try to attract businesses to come here instead of neighboring towns. “We’re in competition with other towns,” Minniti said. Dan Caldwell, of …

Bottom Dollar Opens Friday

The long-awaited grocery store opens its doors March 2.

Bottom Dollar Food, the newest grocery store to call Cinnaminson its home, will open Friday, March 2 at 8 a.m. Read about the store in a September Patch article by clicking here. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held about 20 minutes before the doors open. Cinnaminson township officials have been invited to the ceremony. The first 200 customers in Cinnaminson will get a free reusable bag filled with brand products. Construction crews renovated the space for more than a year. The center's parking lot got a makeover, too. In 2004, Cinnaminson passed an ordinance that states all landlords must refurbish their strip malls before new tenants lease space. The same was done to the Pep Boys Plaza before Zio'smoved in. Bottom Dollar Food will …

Township Plays Waiting Game in Lutheran Home Project

Affordable housing for seniors citizens is slated for the old Cinnaminson Home.

Even though the township has faced several setbacks regarding the old Cinnaminson Home on Riverton Road, Lutheran Social Ministries is going ahead with designs for a new housing complex for senior citizens there. “It’s strictly procedural,” said Committeeman Anthony Minniti, director of economic development, of the setbacks. “This is a state process we have to go through.” The process is through the Department of Environmental Protection. About five years ago, the township bought the home from a group who had been running it as affordable housing for senior citizens before closing it due to lack of residents. There were candidates who wanted to buy the spot and turn it into halfway homes. “We didn’t find those uses very positive for the …

I see the words written, I see the anger on all sides just like politics throughout this country. This type of anger shouldn't exist especially at a local level but it does. I will not lay blame because that would cause an uproar on this site and Chritina has asked to keep it on topic. So when I question why it takes seven years to come back to square one to unload this home, it is because I want…   more ›

New Food Chain Moving Into Cinnaminson

Bottom Dollar Food is bringing its colorfully coded shopping experience to the township, while offering lower prices.

With the closing of Acme and Portobello Markets, Cinnaminson residents have been hard-pressed to find nearby stores to load up on groceries. But, slated for December, discount grocer Bottom Dollar Food will open in the Main Line Shopping Center on Route 130, confirmed Bottom Dollar spokeswoman Tenisha Waldo. Since last winter, construction crews have been renovating the space vacated by the former produce store. Bottom Dollar Food is a subsidiary of Delhaize America and is run by Food Lion LLC in North Carolina. The brightly colored lime green and orange stores average 18,000 square feet and boast low prices of a limited-selection of both national brands and private label products displayed in extra wide aisles. Color-coded pricing easily …

Whistler's Opens New 'Back Porch'

The popular bar and restaurant nearly doubled its size with the addition of an outdoor deck.

For nearly the last decade, the Bacon family who owns Whistler’s Inn, the popular Cinnaminson bar and restaurant on Route 130, has wanted to expand. “Finally, in the last three years,” Owner Matt Bacon said, “we really went at it full speed.” The final product is “The Back Porch,” a huge outdoor deck complete with its own bar, stools, round tables with umbrellas and high-top tables. With finishing touches still being worked on—and the parking lot expansion not yet ready—when all is said and done, the expansion will be double the size of the current space. This is Whistler’s 20th year in business and Bacon said they’ve felt a hit due to the recession because the price of everything has gone up. But patrons have still come out to eat and …

Hathaway's Owner Looks To Expand

Chef George Kyrtatas plans to open a new restaurant and bar, attached to the current diner.

In an effort to appeal to the night crowd Hathaway’s has lost in recent years, George Kyrtatas, owner and executive chef of the Cinnaminson mainstay, is looking to expand the restaurant by opening up Sweetwater Bar & Grill in the space the diner’s bar occupies now. Kyrtatas got the approval of township committee Monday night to forge ahead with a presentation of the expansion to the planning board later this month. “With my brother and I taking over more [at Hathaway’s], and with the economy the way it is, we wanted to bring a new feel to the restaurant, to bring people back,” Kyrtatas said. Kyrtatas, also known as “The Little Greek Chef,” is hoping to open a 1000-square-foot outside patio and incorporate about three-quarters of the …

7-11 To Open a Second Location in Cinnaminson

The old Exxon station on the corner of Highland and Route 130 will be a 7-11.

The Route 130 corridor will get a new 7-Eleven at the corner of Highland Avenue after zoning plans were recently approved. Lehigh Gas Corporation plans to add the convenience store there once all environmental tests are finished and cleanup is done. The store will be around 3,000 square feet and hold 18 parking spots. “What we try to do with our vision on Route 130 is to provide an array of businesses that best serve the needs of residents,” said Committeeman Anthony Minniti, director of economic development. The 7-Eleven location on Route 130 and Riverton Road will remain open for customers traveling on Route 130 north. The new location, which was once home to an Exxon gas station, will also add a ratable to the township’s tax base. “It …
