Toast the Town With Thought

Celebrate the new year, but be safe, urge police.

Moderation—that's the key to a happy, safe new year, says Lt. Tim Young of the Cinnaminson Police Department. "Each year, on New Year's Eve," said Young, "we have people who just drink too much because it is New Year's Eve." While some seasonal spirits can make some of us feel giddy and giggly, for some folks, a little too much alcohol can be like a match under a grenade. "We do have more disorderly conduct and fighting that is associated with excessive alcohol consumption," said Young, a 23-year veteran of the department. Typically, on New Year's Eve, the Cinnaminson Police Department add extra manpower and have more roving vehicle patrols, officers said.
