A food drive being held this month to help local pantries out is being extended since the demand is still high, according to Burlington County officials. Summer is historically a slow month for food donations. "Now is the time to donate to local food banks. Many people simply do not think about folks being hungry during the summer months, since food drives are traditionally held during the winter,” said Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien. Burlington County food banks are most in need of donations during the summer.
Burlington County is holding a countywide food drive this month to benefit local food pantries. Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien—in collaboration with the United Way of Burlington County, the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce, Burlington County Courts and local nonprofits—has asked county employees to collect food items for local food pantries through June 22. Residents and local businesses are also being asked to continue to donate non-perishable food, money or food gift cards to their local food banks, or to Catholic Charities and Christian Caring Centers. Burlington County officials, the United Way of Burlington County and local nonprofit agencies are extending their food drive through Friday, Sept. 16. Officials are asking Burlington County employees and Burlington County Courts employees to continue to collect much needed food items for local food pantries.
