Fountain Farms Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday

The annual Pompeston Creek Watershed Association cleanup will be tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Get a little dirty tomorrow with other volunteers and members of the Pompeston Creek Watershed Association (PCWA) as the 8th annual creek cleanup at Fountain Farms Park takes place. The yearly event runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to clean up debris, trash and pull invasive plants out of the creek that runs through Cinnaminson and out to the Delaware River. Debbie Lord, member of the PCWA, said there’s a big debris jam near Willow Drive so the group will work to clean that up. “And we’ll walk upstream and downstream and pick up trash,” she said. You never really know what you’ll find while cleaning up the creek, Lord said. In recent years, the group has pulled out mattresses, a washing machine, fencing, bicycles and chairs. Two years ago, …

Thank you to those of you who came out to help today! Debbie hurt her back and couldn't go creek tromping with us, but we still managed to get a lot done. This year's haul included a bicycle, a fan, about 5 feet of wire fencing, and the best of all: a giant pair of underpants! I don't even want to know how they wound up in the creek! If you would like to be a part of events like this, why not …   more ›

Fountain Farms Playground Complete; Ribbon Cutting on Friday

All Cinnaminson residents are invited out to the park dedication.

The brand new play structure at Fountain Farms Park is nearing completion and a ribbon cutting to officially open it will be held Friday afternoon. Workers are out there today and the temporary fence will be taken down to add dirt, but tomorrow, neighborhood kids can use it. “They are really excited about it,” Mayor Don Brauckmann said about neighbors he’s spoken to. Brauckmann, also the director of parks and recreation, got resident feedback about the structure itself, positioning and planning. “They’ve been patient through the process,” said Brauckmann. This time last year, the township received the second part of a Municipal Park Development Program grant. That grant, for $185,000, was used for this structure and will be used for …

It might have to do with grading. I noticed they spent a lot of time moving dirt and re-grading the land in both the old and new playground locations. The swing set poles were also re-used from the old equipment. Considering the old location was in a low spot that flooded a few times, and was also attracting teens at night due to being in a dark, recessed spot, I think it was worth the effort.   more ›

Pompeston Creek: Awareness Is Key

The Pompeston Creek cleanup this weekend is not only about keeping the water healthy, but letting residents know it exists, and it needs help.

The Fountain Farms Park cleanup scheduled for Saturday is not just about pulling tires, bicycles and other trash out of the Pompeston Creek; it’s about awareness. “It’s been here such a long time, it’s really a historic little creek,” said Beth Bresnahan, member of the Pompeston Creek Watershed Association, the group behind the cleanup. “We just try to make it healthy and make people aware of it. People aren’t even aware of it.” The Pompeston Creek runs through Cinnaminson, Moorestown, Riverton, Riverside and Delran. The PCWA works to keep the waterway clean and protect the wetlands that surround it. The group is heading up its annual cleanup day at Fountain Farms, a main part of the creek where water flows down into Lakeview. Bresnahan …

Township to Update Parks with Grant Money

Cinnaminson was awarded more than $400,000 to make improvements to three township parks.

By mid-June, Wood Park will have brand new bathrooms and a concession stand just in time for the summer season. The township was awarded a $250,000 Municipal Park Development Program grant from the county freeholders for the project. “We’re really excited,” said Deputy Mayor Don Brauckmann, who’s also the director of parks and recreation. By the end of May or early June, the bathroom’s pieces will be delivered and put in place. The foundation is already set and Brauckmann said workers are finishing up the plumbing and electricity now. And, Tuesday, the freeholders awarded yet another grant to the township—$185,000 for Memorial and Fountain Farms parks improvements. Wood Park         The old building that stood at Wood Park is now torn down…
