Moorestown Cop Sex Assault Case Goes to Jury

Suspended officer Robert Melia and his former girlfriend face nearly 50 counts stemming from their alleged abuse of four young people.

Prosecutors showed lurid video to a Superior Court jury Wednesday to illustrate a Moorestown couple’s alleged role in the sexual abuse of four young people.   Jurors watched clips of Heather Lewis, one of the defendants in the case, using various sex toys on a young girl bound on a bed while another person films it. Prosecutor Kevin Morgan argued the person behind the camera is suspended Moorestown police officer Robert Melia. Melia, Lewis’s ex-boyfriend, sat stoically through most of Morgan’s closing argument, occasionally shaking his head. Lewis sat nearby at the same table. Jurors began deliberating the case Wednesday afternoon. Lewis and Melia are accused of sexually abusing three girls who were pre-teens and teens at the time of the …

Clerk Duct Taped, Robbed at Gunpoint at Moorestown 7-Eleven

Police are searching for four men who robbed the store early Friday. They stole $400 from the clerk after an unsuccessful attempt to make off with the ATM.

Four men, at least two of them armed with handguns, walked into the Chester Avenue 7-Eleven early Friday, duct taped the clerk and tried to steal the ATM machine. At approximately 4:02 a.m., two men wearing ski masks, dark hoodies and gloves entered the store and ordered the clerk behind the counter to the freezer at the back of the store at gunpoint, Moorestown Police said. The robbers wrapped duct tape around the clerk’s arms and legs and stood with him while two more men, similarly dressed, rolled a hand truck into the store and attempted to steal the ATM. They failed to steal the machine, police said, instead taking the clerk’s wallet, which had $400 in it. The suspects left through the back door. No vehicle was seen. The clerk was …

Neighbors ID Suspect as Burglar

Wendell Ross allegedly returned to his old neighborhood to rob a home.

A Moorestown man may be accused of burglary, but he’ll likely never get accused of being a master of disguise. Cinnaminson Police said several neighbors identified Wendell Ross, 52, of Main Street in Moorestown, as the burglar who broke into a Forklanding Road home Sept. 1. Ross previously lived in the Cinnaminson neighborhood, according to reports. The resident of the home, in the 300 block of Forklanding Road, returned from a hospital stay Sept. 1 to find the home burglarized. After Moorestown Police picked up Ross, the suspect allowed officers to search his room. Police recovered some missing items, including a television and stereo system. Police believe Ross may be involved in other area burglaries, and an investigation is ongoing. …
