The Burlington County Bridge Commission recently announced its shared service agreement.
Officials from the Burlington County Bridge Commission announced it will repave Market Street in Palmyra—a street that directly connects drivers to the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. This shared service agreement will save the borough about $270,000 said officials this week. “Providing this assistance to one of our gateway towns not only beautifies a heavily travelled road,” said John Comegno, chairman of the commission, “[but] it also lightens the burden on the municipality, which translates into tax savings for its residents.” Palmyra’s comprehensive Market Street Gateway Improvement Project will extend from Broad Street to Souder Avenue, the road just before the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. The total cost is estimated at $570,000; the cost of the …

The Devon Road bridge may have structure damage.
Even though parts of Cinnaminson are still dealing with power outages, downed trees and flooding, for the most part, the township “dodged a bullet,” according to Public Safety Director Michael P. King. “I can’t say enough how all the entities worked well together,” King said. Public works, fire, police, emergency management and more had met prior to the weekend to discuss how to deal with Hurricane Irene. Officials from Palmyra and Riverton were also included. The main issues the township is dealing with are the small bridge on Devon Road, north of Arbor Road. There may be structure damage and an inspector will further investigate the area. For now, the bridge is closed to through-traffic. Cherry Lane, between Orchard and Shewsbury roads, …

Pete Curry was in his bedroom in Richmond, 30 miles from epicenter, when the earthquake rocked Virginia.
After a 5.9 earthquake rocked Virginia this afternoon, one Palmyra transplant, who felt his whole house shake for nearly 10 minutes, is finding it hard to concentrate. "I feel on edge right now," said Pete Curry, who is studying piano at Virginia Commonwealth University. "I am feeling hypersensitive to low frequencies. I can feel it when trucks go by on Broad Street, a couple blocks away." Curry, who also works as an accompanist and assistant director for the Greater Richmond Children's choir, was sitting in his bedroom in Richmond, about 30 miles from the epicenter of the quake, writing music when he and his roommate, who had just walked into the room, felt a rumble. "For a second, it felt like a train was rolling behind the house or …

Cinnaminson police said incidents could be related.
The burglaries in Cinnaminson continue as another one has been reported here this week, according to township police. Between 9 a.m. Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, an alleged burglary took place on the 1900 block of Jefferson Street in the Parry section of Cinnaminson, police said. The owner of the residence was away, and upon returning home, the homeowner discovered the back door was open. Entry into the home was made through an unsecured kitchen window, according to reports. So far, jewelry appears to be the only items taken from the homeowner's master bedroom. Police are continuing to investigate that and other burglaries throughout the township. Lt. Tim Young said the police department continues to think the burglaries are related—to…

We'll break down our top three most exciting games this week, including the featured CHS Game of the Week.
Last Monday marked the rebirth of Cinnaminson High School boys’ lacrosse and it was an electrifying game for the Pirates. Facing off against Delran, the boys won the game 14-0. Cinnaminson scored four goals in the first quarter, three of which were by senior Steve Petner. “It took time and hard work,” Petner said. “Hard work pays off. A good player works out in the off-season and if you don’t, you don’t get better. We worked out a lot in the off-season, ran a lot and practiced. Consistency helps out and pays off in the end.” Joining Petner in goal-scoring were seniors Garrett McLaverty and Josh Kaighn, and sophomore John Caruso. Senior goalie Amin Huque did not take full credit for his first high school career shut out. “It was mainly my …

It's time for our weekly segment of midweek reports and coaches' quotes in the Coaches' Time Out.
Such is the norm with spring sports—rain has plagued the beginning of the season, postponing a total of eight events since Friday. However, the Pirates as a whole have done quite well in their opening week of games, matches and meets. Cinnaminson Patch and the spring coaches took a midweek break for its weekly Coaches’ Time Out. Baseball Splits in Rohrer Tourney Pirates baseball was forced to kick off its season Sunday at the Rohrer Tournament at Haddon Township High School, as the opener against Westampton Tech was postponed to April 25. They won the first game over St. Joseph’s, 9-5, and lost the second game to Pennsauken, 20-10. “I graduated a lot, so I have a very young team, experience-wise,” said head coach Kevin Merrill. “I was very…

Cinnaminson High School faculty members will face off against Delran High School faculty members to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research.
Cinnaminson High School will host a faculty Charity Challenge on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. This will be the second Charity Challenge of the year between Cinnaminson and Delran High School, the first being held at Delran in November. Delran business teacher Nathan Marter and Cinnaminson social studies teacher (and assistant coach) Jay Meile worked in concert on the event. “We discussed various ways that we could raise money between the two faculties, Meile said. “We kind of came to the conclusion that being football season, the idea of a flag football game would be a good idea.” Delran hosted the first event and was able to raise $1,200 toward juvenile diabetes. That charity was selected because one of the school’s faculty members had a …
