On the article Business Owners Upset with Redevelopment Recommendation

ReplyI'm not so much concerned with the areas chosen for redevelopment as those that have not been chosen (as of yet). I seem to recall hearing at twp committee meetings that Rt130 redevelopment is basically done, and that the next redevelopment zone was to be the huge industrial park area in East Riverton. It seems to me that providing incentives to large businesses to move into the twp would be very beneficial in terms of tax revenues (even with a PILOT agreement, a large enough business would still bring in serious bucks) and the possiblity of hundreds of jobs- more beneficial than giving the incentives to 3 or 4 smaller developers - who would get the same PILOT agreements (for up to 30 years in some cases, with opportunity to renew) and provide very few employment opportunities. Does anyone else find it interesting that the twp happens to own 2 of the properties discussed the other night? LSM is already being given a PILOT plan when the ROSI Scoping Hearing transcript clearly states, several times "They will pay taxes". Now they get the perks of being in a redevelopment zone? (Though the property is not even on Rt.130, the planner said that it was close enough.) Is LSM getting special consideration because they are having second thoughts about the project and will take their toys and go home if we don't play nice?

ReplyPlease check out the transcript from the ROSI scoping hearing at http://www.cinnaminsonnj.org/documents/Scopinghearing-ROSI.pdf . It is a very lengthy read, but documents the concerns of many residents as well as the responses they received. If you don't want to read the whole thing, go to page 12 (42 to 45) and read what was said on the record about the tax situation.

@bull-ric - Why are you calling me a "keyboard coward"? I use my real name, have provided my contact info, I actually attend township meetings, and voted last saturday on the fire district budget. I don't push my opinions on anybody, and try to provide links for people to look up factual information on their own, so they can form their own opinions. I really don't understand why you are calling me a loser, and accusing me of ripping apart the community instead of serving it. Have I met you at any of the twp meetings, zoning board and planning board meetings, park or creek clean-ups that I have attended or volunteered at in the past couple of years? I know better than to respond to people like you, who don't have a clue what they're talking about, but I am insulted and offended by your remarks, and don't want anyone reading your nasty, hateful comments to think that what you're saying is actually true.

Reply@John -The township budget is available by going to the township web page and clicking on the link on the left side of the page.
Re: the fire department - I am guessing that those of you who are complaining about the fire department have never needed their services. They have been my heroes on more than one occasion - we had a fire in 2004, and my husband has a serious heart condition that has required calls to 911. I don't like to think what could have happened without the station on Taylor's Lane. I voted yes on the fire budget yesterday - how many you who are complaining bothered to vote? And if you were paying attention, you would have grasped that the county has said that the entire township has to be reassessed in time for the 2014 tax bills. If you can't wait that long, you have the right to file an appeal yourself. I understand the hardship caused by an incorrectly assessed property - we are currently assessed at about $100,000 over market value. More could be accomplished if people would come out from behind their computers and get involved in the political process - yes, the wheels of government move slowly, and are often greased with the blood, sweat and tears of the public, but they do eventually move, and it's up to us to see that they move in the right direction.

Can't wait for Hunter's to open! Besides the quality and reasonable prices, buying locally helps reduce your carbon footprint - even something this simple makes the world a healthier place, a little bit at a time.
