Welcome to the "Bog Blog"!

What's up in the Watershed, Turtle Tales and More!

Welcome to the “Bog Blog“! Many of you know me as “the Turtle Lady” or from the Pompeston Creek Watershed Association; others may know me as a substitute teacher in Palmyra, or from my comments and announcements here on Patch. As you may have guessed from the ever so witty title, this blog will deal with all things Pompeston (as in Creek and watershed). Here’s a sampling of what you can expect:

  • Environmental issues that affect all of us who live in the watershed, from how to report environmental violations to discussions about native plants and rain gardens
  • Information about cleanups, work sessions and other events from the PCWA
  • “Tales of Turtle Tails” - information about my ongoing work with the local snapping turtles and other wildlife in the area, as well as anecdotes about the variety of turtles and tortoises who live with me
  • Weather info and predictions from the turtles (they’re right more often than the meteorologists!)

Find out what's happening in Cinnaminsonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Notification and information about environmental legislation (such as the new fertilizer law passed in January) and governmental actions that need to be addressed with public advocacy

  • Significant tidal info, particularly exceptional high tides

  • Find out what's happening in Cinnaminsonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • phases of the moon and other astronomical tidbits, just for fun

  • Updates about the efforts of our Lenape friends to preserve their heritage in this part of New Jersey

  • Historical anecdotes gleaned from the oral history passed down through my family during the 100+ years they’ve lived in Cinnaminson

  • Tips and helpful hints, as well as safety information, for visiting the creek

  • Info for birders and wildlife watchers, such as what species to look for and where the best spots for watching are located

  • Links to interesting, educational, informational and amusing websites for the entire family

  • Questions, comments, suggestions even the occasional rant will always be welcome!
